von Arx Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic Sharon and Dolph von Arx have provided a generous leadership gift to fund a large portion of the new Conservancy Wildlife Clinic that will provide the essential room, tools and resources for us to treat and save more of our diverse wildlife species.
The current Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic treats over 2,500 injured, sick and orphaned animals per year. The new von Arx Wildlife Clinic will have the capacity to treat more than double that amount. The expanded, 4,500 square foot Clinic will include larger medical facilities and upgraded interpretive areas to increase visibility and raise awareness of the important wildlife rehabilitation work of the Conservancy. The Wildlife Clinic will be a significant milestone for the Conservancy, enabling us to treat animals in a less stressful environment – and increase their chances to be released into the wild. The space will include separate recovery areas for mammals, reptiles and birds, an animal nursery, and new operating and x-ray rooms. The Clinic will also act as an education center, allowing the public to tour and learn about rehabilitation without disturbing the wildlife or their treatments. While almost half of the “patients” are released back into the wild, native wildlife that are either recovering or not able to care for themselves will be placed in an outdoor viewing area. You can help make this immersive experience a reality. Review the naming opportunities below to get involved today. View the entire Wildlife Clinic naming opportunities here. Sample Wildlife Clinic Naming OpportunitiesNative Wildlife Viewing AreaThe Native Wildlife Viewing area is located right outside of the new Wildlife Clinic, home to many of our permanent residents and a recovery area for others. This outdoor area will be the hub of wildlife educational programs throughout the day. Guests can learn how fishing hooks and fishing line cause the injuries experienced by many of the shorebirds and wading birds. Guests will also have opportunities to attend various education programs throughout the day that feature live birds of prey. Public Viewing Area Enclosures- Aged viewing area cages need to be updated, replaced and expanded for permanent residents, including a Bald Eagle, Red Tail Hawk, Red Shouldered Hawk, Barn Owl and American Kestrel.
- Guests will have opportunities to see birds being trained for education programs or attend various education programs throughout the day that feature these birds of prey.
- These birds of prey are utilized by our Naturalists and are trained to visit classrooms and groups to educate people about protection of wildlife.
The “Pelican Pool”- The “Pelican Pool” houses permanent resident shorebirds and wading birds and those nearing the end of their rehabilitation process. Some species currently seen in this area include Brown Pelicans, Double-crested Cormorants and Great Blue Herons.
