Charlotte County - January 10, January 31, March 21

Collect numerous 1.5-million-year-old Caloosahatchee specimens with Dr. Schmelz at an exciting fossil site in Charlotte County. Specimens include giant apple murex, cowries, miters, vase shells and others. During a lunch raffle, you may even win some fossils from Dr. Schmelz’s private collection. Lunch cost not included in program fee.

Fossil Safari Weekend – February 20-22 --- SOLD OUT

The Safari is limited to 12 people and will depart from the Conservancy on February 20 at 7:00 a.m.

Join Roger Portell, Director of Invertebrate Paleontology at the Florida Museum of Natural History and Dr. Gary Schmelz on a three-day fossil Safari. The trip will begin with a fossil collecting outing at SMR Aggregates in Sarasota followed by a fossil drawing at lunch.

After driving to Gainesville, Florida we will check in at the Paramount Plaza Hotel and Suites and that evening, and receive a lecture at the Florida Museum by Roger Portell on some of the field work on fossil collecting being done by the museum.

On Saturday morning, February 21, we will get a personal tour of the Museum's vertebrate and invertebrate fossil collections. After lunch we will receive a tour of the University's Natural History museum with a look at the Museum's new hall of Florida fossils. The following day, February 22, we will visit a second quarry to collect 42,000,000 year old Eocene invertebrate and vertebrate fossils. After lunch there will be a second fossil drawing after which we will return to Naples.

Trip Fee covers all lectures and activity fees, transportation expenses plus your hotel rooms with taxes for two nights.  Meals are not included.
