The programs listed below are subject to change and are based on minimum attendance of 10 participants.
Become an animal investigator and search for critter clues at the Conservancy Nature Center. Students will explore how scientists study wildlife in their natural habitat, by making observations and gathering evidence then conducting an investigation in the STEM lab. Students will also meet live animals up close in the Dalton Discovery Center.
Explore what lives in a wetland at the Conservancy Nature Center. Get your feet wet in the filter marsh and conduct a biological survey of plants, fish, insects, and more! Students will learn about the many benefits wetlands provide to wildlife and people. They will also study water samples in the STEM lab and embark on an electric boat ride.
Estuaries are places where rivers meet the sea. Did you know that estuaries rank among the world’s most productive ecosystems? Students will use high tech tools as they learn to test the “vital signs” of our estuarine water and explore how changes can impact the environment we all depend on. Students will also investigate live oysters to discover the many services they provide to our estuaries and coastal communities. Depending on your student’s age, story time or a trail walk will also be included.
Curious about what lives underneath the waves? Ever wonder about how microscopic plankton are connected to sharks? Students will use microscopes to identify different species of plankton and learn about their roles in the estuarine ecosystem. We’ll then head to the top trophic level to learn about sharks; what species are here and why some sharks are considered to be indicator species. Depending on the age a story time or trail walk will also be included.
